The dashiki is a colorful Unisex garment widely worn in West Africa that covers the top half of the body. It has formal and informal versions and varies from simple draped clothing to fully tailored suits. A common form is a loose-fitting pullover garment, with an ornate V-shaped collar, and tailored and embroidered neck and sleeve lines. The name Dashiki is derived from the Yoruba word danshiki which means shirt. It is usually worn with a cap called "Kurfi" or "Koufia", and a pair of pants called Sokoto which is the Yoruba word for pants.
That little history was culled from Wikipedia, i actually thought dashiki originated from Ghana until i found out about a year ago when i became interested in dashiki cause of how it was getting viral and popular. I'm actually going to be posting two kinds of dashiki. the second one is kinda the new type and its already getting popular fast. Check out some pictures i took the other day and decide which type you prefer
Heres the Second type
When it comes to dashiki, i think ladies have a better advantage with styles because they can wear it with skirts, bum shorts, trousers and a whole lot more. But as far as guys are concerned its basically just dashiki with trousers or shorts. but there are actually different styles for guys. i think i will be making a post on what you can wear dashiki with later.

They be wearing it for ages even before it became the it thing in the west and acros africa. I am from ivory coast alot of us where it aswel but we import it from our twin country ghana. Keep it my brother african fashion is making big moves around the globe.
ReplyDeleteThank You very Much. I actually thought Dashiki was from Ghana because besides the fact that I've seen a lot of Ghanaians wear it very much in the past, I also think the Dashiki has their kind of Ghanaian pattern/print. but i had to use some references and they all had the origin of Dashiki being stated as being from The Yorubas. Thank you very much for the support. I really appreciate.
DeleteI like the way you styled it
